Where’s the Church?

2016-q3-newsletter-whereisthechurch-2

Some people ask,

Where’s the church?

But we are asking a different question.

The history of Genocide and complacency of the church in Rwanda is a constant reminder that one can do church and not share in the Kingdom of God. So we have taken a rather different approach; We are pursuing the Kingdom of God with confidence that if we seek this first, then Church will happen.

So much Christian mission has been about pursuing church expecting that it will then lead people to participation in the Kingdom of God. Sometimes it works, and then sometimes Rwanda happens and makes you realize that we’ve been trying to pull the horse with the cart. What we seek first fundamentally defines who we are.

This has led us to a whole new way of defining, and even categorizing what we call church. It helps us make the shift of church from being a place and turns it into a practice; It makes it less an event, and more a community, less of an institution, more of a movement. We are not against church, but rather very for Church.

If you don’t understand the difference then come and sit among one of the groups of abused women who gather together weekly to share their needs, pray for one another, and delve into the Word; come and sit with us in a home when orphans of the genocide stand in the place of family for one another, or when an ex-prostitute starts a movement of Bible studies (house churches) in her community.

Join us as we pray for the Kingdom to be unveiled in all we do.
