Kumva 2022 – Canceled

June 5-8, 2022

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, KUMVA Rwanda 2022 has been canceled. Even though our event will be postponed until next year, still come and visit us at ATN! You are always welcome.

——————————————————————

Greetings from Rwanda,

We in Rwanda are starting to get excited about the 2nd edition of Kumva in Rwanda (after many Covid delays), which is set to take place this upcoming June! The official dates are June 5-8, 2022! We wanted to send some preliminary information out to those who are considering coming.

Purpose: Kumva Rwanda is a Biennial gathering between ATN’s network in Rwanda and it’s international friends and partners.  This gathering is a pilgrimage experience in which we aim to:

  • Hear and see what God is doing in Rwanda and to be inspired by Him.
  • Connect with our American and Rwandan partners.
  • Understand Rwanda’s story from the pain and brokenness of the past to the redemption and restoration of the present.  We believe that Rwanda has something to teach the world, and we hope that you will leave with a bit of its story.
  • Leave with a vision of continued work together.

Venue: Most of ATN’s activities will be on sight at ATN Bugesera, ATN Peace House – Kigali, and ATN Gashora.

Cost:

  1. Airfare: this will be your largest expense.  We want guests to arrive no later than Saturday, June 4th.  You can plan costs to be anywhere from $1100 to $2000, depending on where you are starting from.  It is very easy to fly to Kigali.  We think the best route is from the US to either Amsterdam (KLM) or to Brussels (Brussels Airlines).  Many have also started using Qatar Airways more recently.  From these cities, it is a direct flight to Kigali, Rwanda.
    1. Amos family has been booking directly on the Qatar Airways’ website.  Currently due to covid, you can move dates around as many times as you want for free (as long as airfare costs don’t increase).  This has been very easy and convenient for us.
    1. One company many of our visitors and us have used is Raptim International Travel; (serveteam2.us@raptim.org).
    1. Another contact for people at The Hills is Renee at STG Travel (renee@stgtravel.com).
    1. Some visitors have also found success in buying their own tickets on Expedia, Kayak, or another search engine.
  2. Visas:
    1. The price of visas is $50 per person.  You can get your visa ahead of time online or get at the airport.  We can give you further information if you choose to get your visa online.
  3. Covid requirements:
    1. Our world is constantly changing and so are the rules for entering Rwanda.  Rwanda takes very serious this pandemic and because of this, Rwanda is one of the safest countries to visit.
    1. Tourists are often treated more lenient than residents so this will be good for our visitors.
    1. More info will be given as time gets closer.  Feel free to see https://www.rbc.gov.rw/ for more information.
  4. Housing:
    1. Many will stay at Nobleza Hotel, which is on the way to ATN’s main office.  We used this hotel for Kumva 2018.
    1. Costs are being negotiated.
  5. Conference Pricing:
    1. Exclusive of accommodation and breakfast, a flat price of $120 per person will cover transportation, meals, and Conference costs
      1. Lunch (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)
      1. Dinner (Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday)
      1. Tea Breaks
  6. Extra Options:
    1. Some visitors might like to come earlier or stay later in order to do some additional travels in Rwanda.  We are happy to help arrange for this to happen.  Some visitors might be interested to go to:
      1. Akagare National Park to go on safari
        1. We suggest going on Thursday, June 9th as a group
        1. Cost will be between $100 – $150 depending on number of visitors
        1. Leave 4:30am and return around 7pm
      1. Gisozi Genocide Memorial and Genocide sites near ATN
        1. Cost would be transportation and lunch out
      1. Culture Day at ATN
        1. Live a day in the life of a Rwandan at ATN.  Fetch water from a well, farm, cut grasses and feed livestock, cook over a fire, wear traditional clothes, etc.
        1. Cost is $20 per person and includes lunch
      1. Visit silver back gorillas near Musanze
        1. $1500 per person.  Means an overnight stay in Musanze.
