ATN-Rwanda English Education 2016 3rd Quarter Report – Written by Charles Mapendo
It’s a great privilege to share with you the progress of education program within last quarter. The English Education Department serves different ATN-Rwanda Ministries and Programs including the XMM Vocational Training Students, Community Development and the community that surrounds the ATN-Rwanda Property in Bugesera.
This quarter we have been busy reaching out to our community using English as a Second Language as an Access Ministry. Five leaders from the community came each Tuesday and Thursday for two hours each week. And this last month, three more ladies joined.
We use the Firm Foundation materials to teach English as a Second Language which using the Bible as a base for learning english. The best part of it is that students discuss and debate from an easy to read Bible. In additional to that, using verses from Bible helps learners to know deeply what read.
Emmanuel Senyange is 60 years old and is the oldest student in our class. He came to our class because he wanted to learn English.
I always felt that something was missing in what I do even though I am a pastor. Lacking skills of communicating in english made me very sad.
Today, Emmanuel testifies that many changes have happened. He can attend different meetings without an interpreter and he can help kids with their homework! He appreciates the opportunity to learn english that ATN-Rwanda is providing his community.
Numbers/Stats for the third quarter English Education Program:
- 23 students from XMM Vocation Training Finished English course
- 4 leaders and 3 ladies from the community were taught twice each week
